Ok, so Robin didn’t make me do it…She inspired me to do it.
I finally sponsored a child through Compassion. I could no longer take the blog posts from the recent India trip. I struggled with what criteria to use. I decided that since my birthday is Thursday, I would choose a girl who shared my birthday — sort of a Happy Birthday present for the child being sponsored on their birthday.
So, here she is!

Zharick Daniela Caro Martinez (CO5810080) |
|
| Birthday: | May 7, 2004 |
| Age: | 4 |
| Gender: | Female |
| Region: | South America |
| Country: | Colombia |
| Program: | CDI Sembradores de Sueños |
Personal and Family Information:
Zharick lives with her mother. Her duties at home include running errands and cleaning. Her mother is employed.
As part of Compassion’s ministry, Zharick participates in Bible class. She is also in pre-school where her performance is average. Singing, playing house and playing with dolls are her favorite activities.
Your love and support will help Zharick to receive the assistance she needs to develop her potential. Please pray for her.
She’s ours. I’m way new to this, so I’ll be looking to some veteran sponsors to help me with ideas. Like are letters the only thing I can send? Can I send one or a million stuffed animals to this girl? Guess I need to go read through Compassion’s site
I’m sure they have that information there.
I can’t wait to read more of Robin’s experiences in India. They all arrived home safely yesterday and I’m sure are spending tons of time with their families! Still keep them in your prayers. They will likely have a tough time adjusting to being at home again.
If you haven’t sponsored a child yet, please go do so.

You have NO idea what this means to this child…and to me! I’ve now seen first hand the VERY REAL DIFFERENCE you’ve made in Zharick’s life! It’s not words or rhetoric–it’s REAL! Thank you, Lisa, for the best gift you could ever give yourself or her

(Are you feeling the love??)
Just so you know, you can send only flat items via Compassion; it’d be a logistical nightmare for the local offices to forward gifts & items IF they actually made it there (lots of corrupt mail systems over seas). Letters ARE treasures to these kids; so are PICTURES! They WANT to see their sponsors, so make sure to include those as often as possible.
I love ya, girlie…and I’m so excited and proud of you for taking this step.

Lisa – that is such a neat testimony to the power of that ministry and how they are touching lives (with you, in turn, making an impact on his life).

Lisa, I sponsored a child last month – as a result of the Compassion Bloggers, too! This ministry has been tugging on my heart since the last trip, and I love that in a small way, I’m now a part of what they do!
On the India chat last week, somebody said that you can send gifts up to the child and to the family, but they mentioned guidelines. I bet it’s on the website or maybe in the welcome packet you’ll get in the mail??

I signed up to support a Compassion Child last summer at She Speaks. I was walking by and it was just like a giant magnet pulled me to the table. Resist though I tried, I couldn’t. I couldn’t “choose” a child any more than I could choose the child God put in my womb, so I asked the girl at the table to pick for me — a little girl (I think the one I always wanted) who was born shortly before Sean. We adore her. If you are reading this and thinking about doing it, don’t wait another minute. http://antiquemommy.com/2008/07/20/weve-got-a-lot-in-common/
