Shoes, Shoes And More Shoes!

by Lisa B on July 8, 2008

And thus begins my tale of shopping with Shari. Yes, I have been extremely slow in taking pictures to share. To tell you the complete truth, I’ve been hesitant to share everything I got on the shopping trip. When I shared my hesitation with Shari, she reminded me that I’d just finished blogging last week about writing for me — and not worrying about other people. How short my memory is!

See, I have some childhood issues I still need to deal with. I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters who are all at least 10 years older than me — then there’s me. By the time I came along, they were grown and moved out of the house so what my parents had to divide between 4 kids, now all came to me. Yes, I was spoiled — probably still am by most definitions. The thing is my older siblings would always make comments about what I got that they never did. It’s made me hesitant to share things like this because the last thing I want to do is make someone else feel bad or jealous because they don’t have what I’ve got.

I guess the biggest issue is I don’t know how to receive blessings graciously. I’d much rather see someone else blessed so I wouldn’t have to worry about any of it. We’ve been saving up for this shopping trip, and as I shared with Shari, I have been at home for 8 years now. I haven’t been shopping for real clothes in a very, very long time. I have a few dresses that I wear to church, but the majority of my clothes were softball tshirts (mostly Duck’s old ones that I shrunk!). Even though we saved up, we also over spent. Shari had nothing to do with the fact we went over budget — we just absolutely fell in love with everything she picked out. So while we’d been doing great in not carrying credit card debt — now we have a little. Duck keeps reassuring me it’ll be ok and we’ll pay it down as soon as we can.

With all that being said, I’m going to share everything I got — not because I’m trying to be prideful, but because I’m trying to be thankful. I’ve been blessed with a wonderful husband who works hard to provide for me and Doodle. He wants me to have nice clothes and to dress a little above the ball shirts. So I am honoring him and the wonderful gift he’s giving me with this shopping trip.

Please forgive my lack of photography skills. I had actually had Duck take pictures of my feet in these shoes thinking that would be cool — until I noticed hair follicles and just other stuff that’s not exactly pleasing to the eyes in close-up mode.

In honor of Duck, I’ll start with the shoes — his favorite part :)

Some casual black flats. These shoes are unbelievably comfortable :) and much better than the ball field flats I’ve been wearing.

A little dressier shoe with a small heel.

A sassy, black strappy heel.

Another casual black shoe with small heel.

A gray – silver strappy heel.

An off-white pretty patterned heel.

These shoes are really cool. They have a fade on the side and heel. You can’t really tell from my awesome photography though.

I call these the zebra shoes (Shari don’t be mad!).

Really cool red heels with buckle.

Y’all, I came home with 9 pairs of shoes. That totally blows me away. I don’t think I had 9 pairs of shoes in my closet, and I’m pretty sure most of the shoes in my closet were buried under a few years’ worth of dust. I know y’all get a kick out of my captions. Shari was spouting off names of shoes or kinds of shoes the way I talk about techie stuff. I was so totally lost with slingbacks and Giovanni’s and whatever else she was saying. I will say that I totally loved the shoes that she picked out and seeing them with the outfits when I was trying them on was way cooler. I know. You want to see the outfits. Those will be coming.

We are headed out of town this week for our vacation before Doodle goes back to school. I’ll set these up to autopost so you can enjoy them. Oh, and if you leave me a comment on any of these fashion inspired posts, I’ll do a drawing when I get back for a copy of Shari’s book “If Clothes Could Talk.”

Lisa! Those are some seriously gorgeous shoes! I can’t wait to see the rest. You have a very sweet husband for encouraging you and supporting you in this. I’m glad I got to meet him, if only briefly.

Oh, my, Lisa–you weren’t kidding! You had some SERIOUS fun with Shari!

And, ooo la la! You got some GREAT shoes!! I think my favorites are the first pair of black heels, but really…truly…WHAT SIZE DO YOU WEAR? Care to share next year??

Your words to companion this post were the sweetest part; you’re not at all pretentious and the way you spoke about your hubby was precious. Y’all are BOTH fortunate if you ask me :) .

Gonna tweet this…it NEEDS to be shared!

I have never bought 9 shoes at one time, wow, that’s hardcore! I love them, though. So cute. I am partial to the last two pair, I think…

Congratulations! I think Robin’s on to something – you need some sort of shoe loan program (size 8?).

But seriously. What a fun experience and great blessing. It sounds like you’ve earned a nice shopping trip, and your husband sounds like a real keeper. :-)

Have a fun vacation!

Oh my “shoe goodness!!” These are fabu!! I don’t get to shop much either (and I’m okay with that…most of the time–I don’t like malls and I like to go in anywhere and get what I’m going to get. I also like to be budget conscious, etc., which means I usually don’t end up getting anything for me…but I digress), but I would love to come home with any one pair of these! You dun good girl! What a blessing for you to be able to shop for yourself. You don’t sound like you do this too often.
