I passed! I passed!

by Lisa B on March 9, 2008

As of 6 pm today, I passed the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s Basic Rider Course — YEEHAW! I am so excited! I now get to take this little card to the DMV, take the written motorcycle test, then I will be legal on the road. Don’t worry. I’m not rushing out onto the road just yet. I need practice on my bike to get the feel of it.

There were several exercises this weekend I thought I wouldn’t be able to do — and that negative thinking almost did me in. At lunch today one of the instructors said he’d had a previous student who just couldn’t do this one exercise. He pulled the student over and told him to sing (to himself) “Mary had a Little Lamb.” The student performed the exercise perfectly.

Well, that’s me. I have been so uptight and nervous — stressing I was going to wreck the bike or fail the class, that I haven’t been riding. I was over thinking it. I’m wondering if this is a woman thing as the men in the class seemed to be able to “let go” easier than the women (there were 2 others beside me). Mary, her little lamb and I made it through some of the toughest exercises this afternoon :D

I’m so excited I went through this class. I gained a little more confidence with each exercise and it’s amazing what I can do now that I couldn’t on Friday. This type class was the perfect place to learn how to ride and I would highly recommend it to anyone who’s even thinking about learning to ride. If you’ve ever dreamed of riding, take a class like this. You’ll know by the end of the weekend whether you were meant to ride or not.

I owe a huge thank you to Duck who not only took care of Doodle all weekend, but also made me drive the car which he had filled up with gas. Thanks Duck for thinking of me and taking care of some little things to make it easier on me. I am most blessed!

Now, as to whether I’m a Biker Mama yet or not — I think so, but the instructor had a quote on the board today — one I can’t remember exactly, but here’s the gist of it:

Owning a motorcycle and assuming you are a biker, is like owning a piano and assuming you are a musician.
