Being the uncool Mom I am

I’m really getting a good laugh at some of the things that are coming out of Doodle’s mouth these days. I’m not totally sure when she went from being a little girl to being a know-it-all teenager, but she’s only been alive, breathing on this earth for 8.5 years.

This morning I was helping her brush her hair. As normal, she finds something to fuss at me about (what she was fussing about, I can’t remember). So I let out a “Look Dudette” and boy did her eyes roll!

“Mom! You know I hate it when you say that! Geez, if the kids at school heard you say that, I’d just die.”

We continued our conversation about the little things in life, and then she said “you just don’t understand what it’s like being a kid.”

“Sure I do. I used to be a kid ya know.”

“Well, you just don’t understand what it’s like being a kid now — in today’s world.”

Maybe she’s got a point there. Things were a lot different when I was growing up, and I never thought I’d be saying that :) So for now I guess I need to stop with the cutesy names and just hug her to death in private — so no one will see :)

LOL! She has a point. That’s cute. Yesterday I was in the cell phone store, picking out a new phone (fun!) and two teenage girls were in there together, picking out a phone, and I couldn’t help but think how different it was when I was there age and how much the world has changed in just 15 years. GACK.

Being an uncool mom is something that has not changed over the generations. But I am surprised that Doodle has come up with this so soon. These insights usually done come along until the dreaded teen years. But she’ll get over it. After all, you think I’m cool now, don’t you? :)

Jeez! I can’t believe after all the razzing I give you for misspelled words, etc., that I didn’t proof my above comment. Please substitute “don’t” for “done” above. I won’t hear the end of this, will I? :)
