I just had that converstaion yesterday with a member in our church praise band. We have completely gotten away from hymns and I so cherish them. This person's remark was not encouraging that they would come back. Hymns are so spiritual. If our pastor wasn't so good and God-fearing and we were not so involved in various ministies I would probably consider looking somewhere else. I have a CD "Hymns 4 Him" that I listen to in the car and at work to fill in that void. God bless you as you seek out His will in your new church home (sounds like He may have!).

Hey, I didn't see you at our church yesterday! We sang "Leaning," as well as "Rise Up, O Men of God" (it was Scout Sunday). On Ash Wednesday we sang "There is a Balm in Gilead." We always sing hymns! And each week at vespers I always include two well-known hymns. I think it provides a real common ground for the congregation, besides being uplifting.

As far as accurately preaching the Bible -- I'm not sure there's a way to write and deliver a sermon without doing just that. If you've done your homework and written the sermon correctly, there's really no way you can negate the Bible, unless you're just editorializing from the pulpit, and that's a major no-no! I've never seen a pastor do that.

Glad you had a good visit yesterday. I hope it turns out to be the place you're looking for.
