Multitasking?

by Lisa B on January 25, 2007

Howard is forever getting on me because I leave clothes in the washer and in the dryer. He says he doesn’t understand how I can forget I’m doing laundry. When he does laundry, that’s what he does. I can’t understand how you can “just do laundry.” I mean seriously. I have good intentions. I put the clothes in the washer and let them wash, but I don’t stand over it waiting for it to finish. I go on to do other work or other things around the house. Often times I get caught up in what I’m doing and I don’t remember to go back and check the laundry status. Surely I’m not the only one who does this?

I read an article awhile back on some studies that have been done on the mind and multitasking. The article stated that research shows our brains as wonderful as they are cannot think about 2 things at the same time. Often what happens is thoughts race through our head so fast we “think” we’re multitasking or doing 2 things at once. But when we do that are we doing either of those things well? Obviously I’m not doing the laundry very well :)

James 1:8 says “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.” (KJV)

In Biblical terms this means that you can’t be about God’s work and also continue in sin. You will be very unstable in all your ways. That is truly something to consider as we go along our day. Are you truly concentrating on what you are doing? Or are you thinking about things at the speed of light?

Interesting! My husband can do laundry in one fell swoop also. I do it and leave it till I feel like getting back to it. :)

Don’t feel bad, I do the same thing with the laundry.

But thanks for this… :) I needed it!

LOL… I do this ALL the time! What I started doing was writing: Do the Laundry in my to do list, and then I’d write: Switch Loads otherwise I forget!

My husband has the same issues with me but I just tell him we’re all different and that’s the way I am. :) Now, he doesn’t complain, and I keep working at finding a tool to get better!
