Be still!

10 Be still, and know that I am God;

- Psalms 46:10

This line from this verse has been in my head for the last few weeks. Everything has been going crazy — as usual — but I kept hearing this line over and over in my head. Sadly, I didn’t even know where it was in the Bible and had to ask Howard. He found it for me :)

It is so difficult to consciously BE STILL in the world today. There are so many worldly things the devil uses to distract us. Last Thursday, October 12th, was our 10th wedding anniversary. I was very tempted to go to a VA (Virtual Assistant) Conference in Dallas and Howard was even willing to go with me. The more I thought on it though, I wouldn’t be spending time with Howard or concentrating on him. Putting up with me for 10 years deserves more than that. So we took off to the mountains. We stayed in a great little inn, and we rented a motorcycle.

Let me say that again, we rented a motorcycle :) I’ll post pictures on my other blog, but let me just say, riding on the back of a motorcycle brought me a lot closer to God! I prayed before we rented it, while we were on it, and after we took it back. Howard has ridden motorcycles all his life although he hasn’t had one/ridden one in several years. I knew he’d be ok driving it; I just didn’t know how I’d be riding it! It’s been a life-long dream of his to ride a motorcycle on the Blue Ridge Parkway. This past weekend we were blessed to make that dream come true. It was truly amazing! Cold, but amazing!

We picked up the bike from Action Cycle Sports on Friday about lunch time. Frank, the owner, and his mom were absolutely wonderful, delightful people to deal with. Frank recommended the bike and showed Howard all the particulars before he took it for a spin down the road. Then he came back and got me. When I first got on, I held onto Howard for dear life. My hands actually got cramped because I was gripping his jacket so hard! I was squeezing my knees into his side, and literally holding on for dear life :)

We were able to ride on the parkway Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. It is so different riding on a motorcycle. There’s the usual — getting cold, worried about falling off especially leaning in curves, and the freedom. There’s also the unusual, or I guess it’d be better for me to say the unexpected for me — the absolute quiet (no music, no talking, just the hum of the engine), enjoying the journey, being relaxed, unhurried, the beautiful view, and the camaraderie between all motorcyclists. We simply were still, believe it or not, on a motorcycle. By the end of the ride Saturday, Howard kept checking the mirrors to make sure I was still on the bike :D I was relaxed and leaning against the back of the seat, enjoying God’s country and simply amazed at what He chose to do with the mountains, rocks and rivers.

We had a truly amazing weekend and anniversary, just being still. No plans. No hurry. No work. Just enjoying each other and thanking God that He saw fit to bring us together!

I enjoyed our weekend away too! Was the best Anniversary I can remember having! Thanks for helping make my dream of riding a motorcycle on the parkway come true! It was so peaceful riding on the parkway and viewing the majesty and beauty of His creation. Love you – h
